Test cutting?

Hi all,

We have cut up a great many cardboard tubes with my Albion Sempach. It is now to cut up some dead animals. I was wondering what is a good way to prop up the meat for test cutting? Hang it on a rope? Put in on a stump? Cover it with cloth? I have seen those done in the test cutting videos on site at least, but am wonding what is best.

Glad to hear your enjoying that Sempach!

I would avoid cutting against an imobile object such as a stump. There is absolutely no give and you could damage the weapon. I usually hang the meat or whatever from a tree with some rope. If it's a pork shoulder you can tie the rope around the bone. Tim Sheetz did his tests against a deer carcass by hanging it by rope. For some mixed results you could wrap a bit of leather around the meat or even a piece of old quilted moving blanket.
