cutlass

Postby DanielGaghan » Sat Jun 18, 2005 12:41 pm

was wondering if anyone could recommend a company that makes a good cutlass? Was thinking about getting it from windlass, but been reading that the blade becomes loose. Any info would be great thanks.

I don't know what that would be about. My windlass cutlass works just fine.
Besides, I hold in my possession an antique US Navy cutlass that was held by my great-great-great-grandfather who served in the Navy during the Civil War. He was 16 when he got it. It still has some blood stains towards the tip and a big dent in the caprice(possibly from combat?). But rather than risking the antique in test cuts, I got my Windlass and it hasn't come loose on me. There are probably a lot of good replica cutlasses from the various other manufacturers that various other swordsmen have approved and endorsed, but my windlass serves me just fine.

Ooh! This is something I've looked into for a while too- part of my continual pursuit to enlighten folks to post-ren weapons . There are tons of different varieties of cutlasses but if you have a specific one in mind that helps. (I'm a big fan of anything with clamshells on it ) I know there are of course custom makers like E. B. Erickson, Vince Evans and Michael 'Tinker' Pierce that would serve your needs perfectly. But short of that price tag you might want to check with these guys- I've heard very good things.

and though its not really a cutlass I am absolutley in LOVE with this piece:

Thanks folks I like the coldsteel page, might check them out. The type of cutlass i'm looking for is like the pirate one from windlass. I pefer a solid or clamshell guard rather than a wireguard.
