One weapon combination which I often see illustrated in medieval artwork, and also renaissance artwork, but which I rarely here anything about, is spear and shield. It is often depicted but I don't think I have ever come across information pertaining to training in it.
Just some advice: If you are serious about this combination, be sure that both your spear and shield are authentically heavy, not overly heavy <img src="/forum/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />
It can be quite unwieldy to try make anything of this otherwise fine combination if you have cumbersome training tools.
