If all goes well, I'll be back in early march for a month, then out for another month, and then back again. I'm really looking forward to training with you guys some more, and I'm always nagging my partners to visit your study group. <img src="/forum/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> We should put together some classes taught by us and our group members and have a gather/training/whatever session.

It was great to attend both 1.0 and 1.2. I've been training with ARMA Provo since spring ' 02 and I have to say that the more I learn the more excited I get. It was goal of mine to finally meet John Clements, I've been using John as sort of a goal for myself. To be "The next John Clements".
Maybe someday lol.
One thing that's really stuck with me (besides what we offically or with detailed covered) was what John said about practicing rapier and the difficulties in aquiring an accurate represenitive of a rapier. So what I've been recently playing around with is the idea of using "off the shelf" products to fashion a rapier sutible for a single person to florysh with. What I have so far is trying to figure out how to get the proper balance and weight from a steel dowel (I really want to try taking my hammer and anvil to it [but my anvil is in fresno, ca and my hammer is in Provo, Utah] so that i can try to reproduce the dimond/star shape John spoke of)
I hope to get it done before april when I go on a two year "trip". (I've been looking at what articles I can on the non-member protion of the website about the detail characteristics of the rapier, but nothing I've found matches the discription that John gave at the 1.0 sem, break) Any Information would be great if this task is worthy of investigation.
Thank you very much, John, for the guidelines and especially the laughs.

PS To anyone like me who hasn't met john before, don't get so nervous that you look like a goof while you're doing drills.

PSS I'm not that good at quarter staff, the guy in the white tank top doesn't know half swording if it jumped up and ... (stops comment) you get the idea lol. [Don't take it harsh, Patrick. Take it as constructive critism] Where is spellcheck...?

Hi Michael,

It was nice meeting you too. Glad you came.
Look at some of the books on arms &amp; armor / swords that show close up pics of rapier blade cross sections. See our Reccommended Reading list for some titles.
