Tullahoma, ARMA Jan meeting

The Tullahoma group will met this Sunday Jan 28th from 2-4 at the home of Denise Smith. We will set goals for the upcoming year, identify resources within the group (i.e. who has what texts and equipment), identify leaders for various areas (i.e. warm-up, staff, longsword...), etc. This is a brainstorming and planning session and all who wish to be active with our group are welcome. We plan on meeting once a month with additional dates during summer months as schedules permit. Currently we are three adults and seven youth strong (once the last of us renew and/or join).
You do not have to be from Tullahoma to join us you just have to be willing to come here... so all you Nashville, Murfreesboro, Huntsville, Chattanooga, Clarksville folks and any one else... please feel free to come met with us. We are beginners but as history has proven we have more experienced ARMA members who have been willing to come work with us.
Speaking of which... David Welch any idea when you might want to come again?
Anyone else want to come give us some time and knowledge?

There's a pretty big group from the Clarksville and Murray, KY areas meeting up at MSU in Murray, KY that same day. We either meet in Clarksville or at MSU about every two weeks. We should try to schedule some overlap in our groups.

We plan on a monthly meeting here. We would love to have you come work with us from time to time. Most of us are not ready for a 1.0 but I will mention it to everyone. The other thing is cost as the majority are youth (high school students). We are trying to build up enough practice gear to be able to train better but for now most only have wooden swords and no protective gear so we only touch contact. We work around everyone's schedules as best we can in order to have a decent turn out. I hope to set a regular meeting time for us with only minor changes for major holidays. We will see this Sunday what everyone wants to do. Please keep in touch and I hope that we can all get together.

Not ready for a 1.0! Not true! 1.0s are for anything from "I've been doing this for three years but with no instruction" to "what's a sword, now?" Not to mention guys like me who have been 6 times or so.

By all means, get your adult members and the older of the youth up to the Kentucky 1.0. It will be most worth it, and the price is really good for two days of instruction.

If I can just chirp in for my 2 cents:

1. Attending a 1.0 is a fantastic way to kick start your swordsmanship and avoid many of the pitfalls we all make when starting. If you have the chance to attend a 1.0, and in this case you have the opportunity, definitely take advantage of it. In addition, the fact that John will be teaching this 1.0 means that you should not miss this opportunity. It will be money and time definitely well spent. I would respectfully advise your group to take advantage of this weekend of training.

2. Living in relatively close proximity with Jake also means you have a great opportunity to make rapid strides in your swordsmanship. I respectfully would advise you and your group to take every possible opportunity to train with him.
