Historical shield dimensions

Does anyone have access to reliable diameter, thickness, and weight ranges for late Migration Era/ early Medieval round and/or kite shields?
I know that few shields have survived compared to swords, being comprised of mostly organic materials that decompose quickly; surely there are a few hiding out in a museum somewhere. Do any of you ARMA folks in Sweden or Poland know of still extant antique shields to base designs on?

There is a german book whose name temporarily eludes my memory that is supposed to be one of the best sources of information on historical type shields. The book "the anglos saxon shield" is a great source on center held round shields. I will see if I can come up with the link to the first book I mentioned and post it later.

Thanks for steering me towards some good sources. I'm about to make a pair of round shields; although I have made shields before, I wanted to design these as close to historical specs as is feasible. My previous attempts are probably not too far off, but I cannot know how far off without good reference to actual historical shields. Of course, I will be making some concessions to "waster-friendly" requirements...an edge padded with leather-over-rope in all probability.
