I see this old topic came up to the top again with a new post, but that is a good thing.

I find Silver very interesting and useful for many things. I REALLY like that line about "An English Book of Five Rings." Lots of meaning in that statement.

What fascinates me is how closely Silver's thought almost identically parallels the thoughts of some of the Chinese internal masters......In the early 20th century, Wang Xianghai, founder of the I Chuan school broke with the mainstream schools of Hsing I/Tai Chi/Bagua saying that so much of what they taught was superfluous, and that only a few basic principles in movement were necessary. One of these principles is "Wai San He," (idea of timing between hand, foot and body, literally 3 external connections) which is nearly identical to the idea of "true times."

I think this is very interesting, and that the parallel is more than coincidence that two men from different cultures and time periods come up with the same ideas, articulated in the same way, with nearly the same objections.
