Multi-Group HEMAC Event in Old Sarum (England)

Postby Matt Easton » Tue May 06, 2003 6:32 pm

Stuart Huntley of Cut and Thrust, The Schoole of Defence, in association with HEMAC (the Historic European Martial Arts Coalition) are hosting a multi-group event at Old Sarum (UK) on the weekend of the 28/29 June.

This promises to be an excellent and insightful event, covering fencing and western martial arts sources from the 13th to the 18th centruies.

The organisers hope both for there to be continual scholarly exchange between practitioners throughout the weekend and some dispelling of myths for the public, who are welcome to view displayes and presentations.

From noon each day there will be Public displays on the hour at this beautiful and historical site.

This will also be an excellent opportunity for those who could not get to the Annual HEMAC Event in Dijon to meet up, train and share ideas and drinks!

Feel free to contact me regarding the event, whether you would like to attend or maybe present some research, and I will forward you on to Stuart who is the organiser - my email is: matteaston@gladiatoria.freeserve.co.uk
Everybody is welcome to attend.

So far there promise to be presentations by Stuart Huntley, Philippe Willaume, Martin Austwick, Mark Hillyard, Dave Rawlings, John Dodd, Craig Pitt-Pladdy, Matt Easton and more, covering such sources as Ringeck, Fiore, I.33, Silver, Sutor, Petters, Worstel Kunst, Newcastle and so on.

Matt,

That sounds great!

Is it going to be at the Hill Fort or at the Church Ruins? (that is if I am rememebring it correctly)

If you can get a chance to spar with folks assaulting up the slope of the hill fort that would be interesting. That is one steep Hil!

Hehehe - yes, I'm not sure I could even climb that slope, let alone fight up it.. I think I'll take my longbow
Actually I think we are near the ruins of a castle, rather than the hill fort (which Aethelred fortified against viking raids and put a royal mint on the top!). But I don't know exactly I'm afraid.

Matt, sadly I can give 50% chance to be there, I'll be able to come only if my graduation will happen before that date
I'd really prefer to deal with Silver, Fiore etc... than with Boole, I'll try to make my teacher get the point

Hey Carlo - great to hear from you - and it was great to meet you in Dijon. I wish that weekend could go on forever - I had such a great time it was really hard to come home..
Hopefully see you soon!

It was great for me to learn from you and the others and to enjoy your company, the best thing I brought home was the idea of how to properly work on the manuals.
Maybe that I'll keep in touch with Mike and Ralf and someday we come out with some backsword-sabre-spadron stuff toghether, I hope so...

Apparently June 28/29 is going to be an even bigger weekend for WMA than we thought. Remember, that's the same weekend as the ARMA International Gathering.

Sweet! What say we have a mutual drink-raising to each other?! :-) There will maybe be a couple of ARMA members at this event who weren't able to get across the sea, and I would have liked to have been there myself.

Well Matt, if you take your longbow then I'll take mine - once I have resolved my personal issues about wearing tights

My longbow died a long time ago and I haven't got round to getting a new one I'll get a new one at some point though - I may bring my recurve.

Matt
