What are those Spiky Shield things from Codex Wallerstein?

Hey guys can anyone tell me what those Spiky Shield things from Codex Wallerstein are?

I believe, they are ritual dueling shields. I don't think they were ever used on the battlefield or in self defense. They existed purely to be used in the rutualized combat of a duel. Of course, I could be wrong.
All fighting comes from wrestling.

That's correct. From what I understand, the tights were slicked with grease so it couldn't devolve into a wrestling match and they actually had to use the weapons. Then again, they're German, it could have just been for entertainment...
