Newbie in Denver

Postby Tina Dion » Sun Feb 22, 2009 1:15 pm

Greetings all!

Is there anyone in the Denver, CO area interested in forming a Study Group? I did olympic-style fencing ages ago in college and have been doing a bit of practice in the SCA in the last year or so but it isn't what I'm looking for.

If there is a Study Group in the area, where is it and how do I go about joining in? If there isn't...... let's get a group together!

Also, which books in the resource listing are good starting points for mid-1500's and mid-1700's British land and naval sword fighting? I'm interested in both time periods.

Cheers!
Tina

Well there are currently three off us in the Boulder/Denver area (we just got together today) who are in the process of staring a study group. So drop me a line. I think we are planning on getting together next weekend again.

Hi, Tina. I'm one of the 3 that Cooper mentioned. In case you haven't talked to him yet, we're getting together in Golden on Sunday & plan to keep it up on a fairly regular basis. We're mostly working on longsword basics (since I'm a newbie as well) & trying out the techniques from the Ringeck book by Lindholm & Svard.

Hope you can make it this weekend

Derek

1:00 on Sunday at Long Lake Ranch Park in Golden if you are interested in joining us.
Tina: do you have gear (mostly just a waster)?

How often do you meet and would it be alright if someone from the Springs joins you? I have a waster and and "sharp" but no protective equipment.

We have normality. I repeat, we have normality. Therefore, anything you still cannot cope with is your own problem...

Right now we are meeting about once a week (though we will not be meting next week), usually on sunday. The more the merrier, I would love to see as many people as we can get.
