Nathan,

Hello Irishman! I have been to your awesome Country 3 times, and I will go back probably next year at the very latest. I have many fond memories of having more than a few pints in Dingle etc..

As far as "help" your going to have to be more specific, if I may suggest start by spending some time reading the material available on this site, and get back to us with specifics.

I am not aware of any specific historical Irish fighting manuals, as from what I know of Irish history they were a very Oral tradition. I would love it however if you could prove me wrong!- Welcome and good luck on your journey-! AP

well i suppose how to go about training first of all in a recognized manner.
then how to go about refining my areas of interest which is hopelessly broad.
but for now i want to focus on the longsword, sword and shield axe and spear.
so im looking for training methods ideas etc and ideas for how i can train on my own and how to make or get decent wasters.
hope thats less broad and i hope someone can advise me thank you all

Nathan

In ARMA we take a holistic view of European martial arts. So far we have not seen anything that makes us believe that the Germans and the Italians had truely different longsword systems, rather we see only a single European longsword system. Of course, many scholars outside of ARMA completely disagree with ARMA on this issue, which is fine. My guess is that if you learn European longsword you will have learned Irish longsword. Likewise with all of the other weapons.

Good luck as you travel new road.

oh i know thank u for replying i know there are very few similar fighting styles and it is much better im my view to share ideas from all. the only "irish style" things im looking for is shillelagh fighting and even for this im looking towards asian and European arts as a comparison. but i do need help on training methods and where to get wasters and protection for training etc and im sure the good people on here would be knowledgeable in that area
