Canadians?

Postby Kyle Sutton » Mon May 09, 2011 7:31 pm

Hey all, new to the forums, and renaissance martial arts on the whole.

I've always had a particular interest in medieval combat, and warfare in general. Now, after discovering this organization, what it stands for, and gaining a greater understanding of what renaissance martial arts ACTUALLY are. I am now hopelessly obsessed .. which ... thank you, by the way!

Anyhow. I was interested to know if you had any members kicking around Canada. In particular, the greater Toronto area of Ontario.

Some advice or any direction on which reading/training materials would be a good place to start, will most certainly be put to good use.

Thus far i've mostly been pouring over any Arma videos I can track down on Youtube, and a copy of Hans Talhoffer's Medieval Combat that i managed to procure.

Any and all advice is more than welcome.

You'll be hearing from me.

Thanks everybody.

Ooooh a challenge!

I'll take a wild guess and assume Canadians are few and far between in your organization, or my questions were far too generic and I came off like a tool. I'll be more specific in the future. I was mostly just testing the water anyway.

They say silence is golden.

Yes, we've had Canadian members over around British Columbia before, though I'm not sure about currently, but none that I know of recently in eastern Canada. You are probably within five hours' drive of several groups in the northern US where you are, and if you could visit any of them at least once or twice I would recommend it. Every group has to start with somebody, so if you're motivated enough then it might as well be you. You'll find plenty of help here if you make the effort.

Much obliged, Stacy. I appreciate the heads up. I'll endeavour to get in touch with one of these groups at some point in the future, and make a trip down.

As luck would have it, one of your members sent me a link for the HEMA locator. As it turns out they have a presence here at the university of Toronto. Seems like a good place for me to start.

Once again, thanks for the input. I really do appreciate all the help I can get.
