Theoretical question... (ancient Roman & Greek Combat)

Postby Michael Kelly » Mon Jun 04, 2012 11:58 am

I would imagine some work has already been done in this area, at least by a few interested individuals...

I understand that surviving material is likely scarce at best, but theoretically how different would individual sword and shield combat of the ancient Greeks and Romans differ from that found in medieval times? I would image that for the most part the techniques would be fairly similar with some adjustment for the shorter swords used.

Regarding the Greeks, what about spear and shield combat? Do we have any material regarding the combat techniques used individually? Has anyone looked into this aspect of WMA???

And I just saw the 'Sword and large shield combat' thread...
