Right now we are working out of "The Art Of Longsword Combat" from AEMMA due to the advantages we found from trying to learn out of a reference that gives step by step instructions, has simple pictures for examples, is in English, etc. Unfortunately, like every other physical art, it seems if it feels like you are doing it correctly when you first start, you must be doing it wrong. Nothing is better than working with someone that knows what the heck they are doing.

If you're looking for a straight-forward,easy to understand text on the HES arts, I highly recommend Clements' "Medieval Swordsmanship" . It seems like no matter how many times I've read through it over the last few years, I always seem to discover something new. <img src="/forum/images/icons/cool.gif" alt="" />

I would also reccomend Rassumussen's (sp?) translation of Joachim Meyer at www.sheilhau.org, which is very easy to read and to apply, and is meant at least in part for beginning students. I'll be down in Nashville in 8 weeks. I'm also chatting with JC about organizing a formal event, but nothing's been worked out yet. I'm gonna see you TN boys trained re-al good before I leave there!

Well, I am proud to say we have finally joined.

And Jake, we are finding the translation of Joachim Meyer very useful. However, since we had started with that other manual,now you have two new members who don't know what they are doing, argueing over the names of guards and strikes. Due to our training the previous evening, I was awakend from trying to sleep in by haveing a waster thrown at me and being told to defend myself! <img src="http://www.thearma.org/forum/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> Where else can you get training like that?

We didn''t do a Retreat at Hanks this year because we had our Gathering instead. Hank's also been under the weather, busy with his book writing, and I've done 8 events out of Houston this year already with two more trips planned.
