Suggestion From "History Channel" Thread

Postby Craig Peters » Wed Jan 07, 2004 2:33 pm

I am sure this has been suggested in the past, but judging by the History Channel thread, there are a fair number of people who are interested in talking about the middle ages and Renaissance outside of swordsmanship. Perhaps an "Off-Topic" forum could be created solely for the purpose of discussing anything medieval/renaissance outside of swordsmanship? It's not as though a forum for this purpose is completely irrelevent to the ARMA's main focus.

I believe there are plenty of forums out there that would accommodate this kind of discussion. Personally, I'd like to see this forum remain dedicated to the study and discussion of EMA. Admittedly, there are political topics that could be discussed in this context, the banning of all but licensed training facilities by Henry VIII come to mind, but these are few.

I agree with the thoughts expressed by Erich entirely on this matter.

Yes, let's keep this forum as purely dedicated to Western Martial Arts as possible. As Eric said, there are plenty of other forums out there for people to chat about other topics and I really appreciate the sharp focus this one has always maintained.

I post regularly at About.com's Medieval History forum, they have some really intelligent folks over there. Occasionally you get people with a grudge against the Catholic Church who start to go off on their past (and I'm not going to say anything one way or another on that, other than to say it happens) but the moderator usually keeps it friendly and clean other than that.

Sorry, I just realized I said "EMA" in my post. My brain still hasn't returned from its holiday mush yet.
