I just bought two. They seem solid (but what's up with that noise Lance?). Not "squishy" at all. Depending on personnal needs (or that of your sparring partners) might want to think about the option of adding padding to guard/pommel. Now if I only had someone to spar with (time to put the generic forum "is there anybody out there" message out).

First, thank you Tim and Michael for your kind words.

Second, that "knock knock" noise came from the metal pieces within the core because the metal pieces don't fit the inside wall of the core perfectly. However, these pieces do not move along the length of the blade within the core, because if they do, they will shift the balance point in action.

The upside are that these slight unfitness allows them to travel through the curved cores and a hit is always audible even in video where the camera was quite a distance away.

The downside are that it's noisy and the very slight rattles may get into the nerves of some practitioners.

Because of the reasons above, I've eliminated these noises in the new RSW I've made by fitting the metal pieces with the core better. The noise and slight rattling are gone. However, I've yet to test it in hitting someone and see whether the hit will still be audible in the camera. I dun think it's a very important feature though. The realistic handling characteristic always comes first!

I've also modified the construction of the metal pommel in the new ones to make them sturdier and longer lasting.

p.s. I injured myself during a solo drills under rain on 20th this month and I'm now literally disabled. My left butt joint causes me so much pain that I can't sleep well. I've visited doctors and received treatments but still with no effect. <img src="/forum/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" /> Whadda way to start a year (a chinese new year).

You could say the noise gives better indication of contact, and should be unnerving--like the sound of bullet being fired. If you can handle positive contact, and weapon noise (and yelling and ugly faces...) and still function I'd consider that good for experience. Sorta' like MILES (lasers and blanks) in military training. Maybe offer with and without noise versions?

Yes, the noise and no noise version can easily be offered on the newly made swords.

Again, if you've any question, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'll try my best to provide support (and in the mean time, also trying my best to get my left butt joint to function properly again).

I wish so too! I've been receiving multiple acupuncture sessions and powerful (and painful) massage on the thigh, spine and back area. It seem to improve slightly.

BTW, I've added some testimonials on the homepage of the website. <img src="/forum/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

I agree, the noise could be useful for hit detection. Does it make a noise when you swing it, or just when you hit something?

The older version has a noticible "knock knock" noise when you are changing the weapon's momentum quickly and a loud noise when hit something.

Today we tested the new version out. I've got 8 visitors today and 5 of them bought a sword. Some Bagua Jians, Chinese Jian and katana. It's the highest sales record so far. Afterwards we sparred on the rooftop for 2 hours. Of course I can't spar, but I played as the judge.

The new version has very little to no sound even during the weapons' momentum change and an audible sound during hit. So I think it does well because it's not completely silent as I thought it would be. Instead, it has a good balance on quietness and notification.
