final exam: group combat!

Postby Ryan Ricks » Fri Apr 30, 2004 10:19 pm

well looks like the study group can come up after finals, so my practice partner and i were thinking of cooking up a little group combat and one against all final exam.

for those of you in groups, how do you go about group combat? any important considerations to be aware of?

has anyone done one versus everyone else? i was thinking give them like a running head start, then they could use the neighborhood environment to their advantage. any thoughts?

If you have a poke into Terry Brown's work on English Martial arts you'll see that the London Master's tested schollars by staging an open event where any trained person could turn and fight with the schollar under test. I can't remember if there were any rules or limits on time, number of matches fought etc but that would be quite hard work

The prize-playing like the London Masters is actually what we do for our Senior Free-Scholar ranking test, more or less. We do have an article in the Member's Area on one vs. many tactics. We do that here in Houston sometimes. The only way to survive is to do a lot of running and stay at the point of a big triangle. Cut down the pointman while everybody's stuck behind him, then run some more. It's sort of like herding sheep in reverse, because the sheep are all chasing ewe.

yeah i read that one. i'm pretty eager to try it.

i was wondering if it would be better to do something like this in the park, or just down the streets in the neighborhood.

also, since most of the study group hasn't been attending lately, we thought of doing everyone against me and my practice partner. i'm not sure how 8 against 2 would work.

Shakes head, leaves forum beset with a strange "Monty Pythonish" feeling as he admonishes his colleagues with the witty jab..."Sundry silly persons" Run Away!!!!!

Back on topic, Stacy's advice sounds to be very wise council to me. To stay moving is the best defense against being surrounded and done in.It's not like those kung-fu movies where you're surrounded by 20 folks and they all attack one at the time. In real martial art's,if you are surrounded by a mob, expect to BE mobbed
