Questions about rapier training

Postby ksiajdn » Mon Oct 25, 2004 12:54 pm

First of all, forgive me for any grammatical mistake I commit here. As you see, english is not my primary language. Thanks!

I've been looking forward to start studying the rapier and reinassance's swordplay, but I lack any kind of material about instances, footwork, attacking, defending, etc. I've already thought on starting at some modern sport fencing but I'm very relluctant to do so because it's not an viable option. So I would like to ask for some advice on where to start, how to start and so on.

P.S: Don't worry, I'm not completely clueless about this kind of subject. I have basic notions of footwork and such, but I'm almost sure that the technique of the rapier differs from my own. I know I can't start practicing out of the blue like that, don't worry <img src="/forum/images/icons/cool.gif" alt="" />

Clements' book "Renaissance Swordsmanship" is a pretty darn good place to start. Also, have a look at this essay http://www.thearma.org/essays/fenctoda.htm and then browse the "article and essays" section of the site along with the "historical text " section. There is a great deal of good info there.
