This is the way I teach it, may be it will work for you.
Start out of distance
Prevent the goody to move (he can swap feet but not go forward, backward or on the side) and have the baddy step in and attack (attack on the pass.
That will force the goody to use absetzen or masterhaw as an absetzen.
When they are happy with that.
Get the baddy to start within range (attack on the pass) and repeat as above
That will force the goody to use absetzen (or masterhaw as an absetzen) under pressure
When they are happy with that
Get to the first exercise distance and have the good step forward and the baddy counter him as soon as he get into distance (attack on the pass).
The idea is to translate the defensive drill in an offensive one (i.e. you can use abzetsen to cover your advance)
That should lead to more bind and to people being more confident in the going forward thingy. (as in you can make it safe to go forward and enter and “conquer” your opponent space”
It will make the staying far and getting in and out strategy much less attractive because of the risk of an effective abzetsen.
