in reply to:

"Knoxville, TN. January, 2006. A 40-year-old man and his 20-year-old son were charged with aggravated robbery after entering a medical clinics in the afternoon with a “ninja-style sword” and demanding cash. (source: www.volunteertv.com)"

Maybe we should outlaw stupid people, I think that would fix problems in a number of different catagories( telecommunications, banking, DMV., forum discussion, just life in general.) <img src="/forum/images/icons/grin.gif" alt="" />
Thanks, Bill

John:

It would seem as though many of these attacks/assaults occur with Eastern weaponry (the so-called media-dubbed "Ninja" sword). However, there certainly seem to be plenty-a-western gear 'round....even in the wall-hanger realm of things, so I was wondering to what extent western straight swords are the victims of bad publicity.

Do you have any spreadsheet or tables that break it down as to extent western versus eastern style gear in these events....

Just a hunch, but I'm betting that western swords show disproportionately much less occurence in such attacks likely due to the impacts of pop-culture, romanticized martial arts, and the general "Kung-Fu theatre" nature of influences on folks. Still, I guess numbers would show it.

...inflicted by a samurai she owned...

I didn't realize there was a shogunate in Duluth.
