Does Doebringer say that you shouldn't hold the pommel of a long sword?
He does say that. There's a discussion of that topic recently here:

Thus we're misunderstanding D. here, or he disagrees with other masters, or he's talking about ball and wheel pommels (which I believe were more common in his day...the scent-stopper is the predominant pommel in other works, IIRC...but I'm not a spatologist...)
