First Renaissance Martial Arts event in Israel

Just a quick note. Got back from a quick trip to Israel on Sunday following the first-ever Renaissance Martial Arts event in that country. It was an honor and a real thrill to be invited to give a seminar there. We had about 35 very receptive people, mostly local Israelis and Russian émigrés. Neither Russians nor Israelis do anything half ass when it comes to martial arts practice. They were a good group, quick to learn, energetic, serious minded, and hard fighting with good moves. With the numbers of participants they have and the seriousness of their attitude over there, they have the discipline and skills to be a real force in the historical fencing community. I look forward to further interaction with them in the future.

Had a real “Dungeons & Dragons moment” when in the midnight full moon we walked up a small wooded hill right next to our hotel in Haifa and to our surprise staring at us there in there in the eerie darkness was the ruin of what we later learned was a 14th century Crusader fortress. Its shadowy entrance beckoning adventure was a spectacular site in the blue grey gloom. Sure was a surprised. What a cool site it was. We almost ran back to get our swords since there “surely” had to be trolls or goblins lurking within, but instead I took some pics in the morning. See below.

That is indeed very interesting and encouraging. I cannot wait to see what where else ARMA groups decide to popup. All we need now is some ARMA South America groups and Australia which would be nice as George Turner was talking about, and we'd be set. <img src="/forum/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

Wow.....ARMA now on 4 continents (North and South Americas, Europe and Asia). Fantastic.

This organization keeps on getting better and better.

(I realize that ARMA HK is in Asia, I guess I should clarify and state that there is ARMA representation and/or seminars in East and West Asia).
