Renaissance Style Schools in the United Kingdom

Postby Kirkby.Nicholas » Thu Aug 25, 2005 12:40 pm

Hello. I'm a student in the UK, and I've been training in Foil Fencing for two years or so now. Since I was a child, I've been fascinated with more 'real' forms of fencing such as long and broadsword combat, and many others which I've read about, seen performed, but don't actually know anything about.

What I'm wondering is if any of the more experienced members here know of any teachers or schools in London who might not mind taking in a basically untrained - though very keen - student. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated, as I've been looking out for schools of this kind for quite some time now.

Hi Kirby. Check out Matt Easton's "The Exiles," in London, I think.

Hi

Schola Gladiatoria and the Exiles are both in London; the former in Ealing, the latter in Barking and Dagenham. Both groups focus on Fiore.

Cheers

I have personally trained with Matt Easton and he and his senior students have my respect. They're doing some good work I think.

I'll be back this Holiday around the end of December if the invite remains open and I'll buy the beer this time <img src="/forum/images/icons/grin.gif" alt="" />

I would definitely get in touch with Matt Easton. I have not had the honor of training with him, as Shane has, but I have analyzed videos of his interpretations, and I like very much what I have seen. You will learn from Matt, so go for it.
