ARMA-Appleton at Lanzefest

Postby Aaron Pynenberg » Wed Sep 07, 2005 7:07 am

Hello Everyone,

ARMA made a great showing at Lanzefest this year. I want to thank Brad Lambrecht and his Wife, Stephanie for coming along and giving me a hand. Chris Thies was also on hand on Monday with his family and it was great to see him as well.

Brad and I put on two "shows" one on Sunday and another on Monday. We were well recieved and had many positive comments about our presentations. We were invited back next year by the Owners of Albion, Howie and Amy so that says something.

Lanzefest was a great opportunity for us to spread the word. We handed out some flyers and answered many questions from many diffrent types of folks.

We had a chance to tour the Albion Factory, and handled many of the swords that Albion makes. For those waiting for the Maestro line, (me) have no fear when they come out a little later this year they are really going to be something special!

We spent some time chatting with Loyd Clark and the rest of the "Kings Champions" full-contact jousters, and had some time to get in some sparring.

Stephaine took a ton of pictures for us, and should be able to post them soon- Thanks again Brad and Stephanie, and to Chris Thies for checking it out. Thanks also to Kevin Peterson for his continued support, even with his busted limb- Aaron Pynenberg

Very good Aaron!

I'm really sad I had to miss Lanzefest, but I do believe I'll attend one day. I can't tell you how jealous I am that you've toured the factory, and thanks for the good news on the Maestro Line. I cannot wait to get my hands on one. I'll send you another message here in a bit.

Thanks,

I was able to see Aaron & Brad's demonstration that Monday, and they executed their presentation with notable professionalism. They held the entire audience's attention throughout their demonstration. My wife for instance - who's not a historical fencer - was very pleased with their explanatory dialogue and demonstrations of basic techniques.
You guys did an excellent job!

Just wanted to post a quick thank you to Albion for having us this year, and to Aaron for asking me to tag along. I have forwarded the first batch of pictures to Aaron so they should be posted in the near future.

I'll kill 2 birds with 1 stone here-

Shane, thanks man, we started with a quick intro to the longsword and all it's parts, what those parts were for and how they were used. We then did a little talk about ARMA and what it stands for etc... (the GFS test was good practice Gene!) Then we did a little ditty on the ancient Masters and basic timelines. We then broke into some of the guards and how they were used, and also covered a many of the myths surrounding swordfighting and compared it to how the movies portrayed it. We then did a short demo on the masterstrikes and covered our use of the wasters. We put a quick show on of freeplay with wasters. Then we put on the gear and went at it with full-speed sparring. After I talked about the targets that were hit the most and what a real sword might have done to those body parts. I ended with a floryisch, and took questions.....pretty simple display really but it was really well recieved -

Gene, Lanzefest is a mini-ren faireish type deal put on by Albion, in conjunction with The Village of New Glarus's presentation of the William Tell Play. This is a Swiss Cultural pagent put on by the whole Village, with period costume and everything. It's done in English and Swiss and is very cool. Albion then takes over and sets up several exhibits including all thier products and some cutting demos etc..they have the "Kings Champions" jousters come in and put on a live jousting show, (not fake real contact with full-on lances) then there are a couple other presentations put on by some other locals. (One guy who made his own full-suit of armour, 15th century full-plate, enlists his whole family including his Wife to help him out) and some other stuff, they had a belly dancing troupe called "Sahja Dancers"- we just happened to set-up our booth next to them-(darn), but they put on a great show. You can see more at The Abion site under "events". Later!- Aaron
