Postby M Wallgren » Tue Sep 27, 2005 5:25 am

Has anybody seen the HBO serie Rome? In the Title of episode 2 and forward there is a two second klip of some grafitti showing a smal figure with a giant eregated fallos and under it four letters scrabbled.... the letters are ... A, R, M, A.

Just make you wonder!?!!?

I got to see two episodes of this on about the 5th day of our evacuation from Katrina. We had inally got the TV running on generator power and had 'cable' due to a satelite hook up (mnuch better in emergencies of this sort than actual cable, btw.) , and though the frugal folks we were staying with would nver have payed for HBO, we had been granted a 'free weekend' by the gods of pay TV for some mysterious reason, even though it was the middle of the week.

Marjorie and I had been very eagerly waiting for the series, being fans of all the other HBO soap operas like Deadwood and 6 feet under etc., and me being a history nut with a special fascination for Rome.

They showed two episodes back to back.

All i can say about it was that for two hours (or however long it was) I was't thinking about my wrecked porta-potty of a home, insurance companies, my missing friends, my refugee status, the future existence of my home town, my job, my lost library of books now turning to moldy toilet paper, when the power, water or gas was going to get turned back on, the 97 degree heat of the night, or any of it....

That is a damn impressive feat right there.

With my modest knowledge of modern Italian (and my even more modest knowledge of catchy latin phrases that makes you sound sophisticated), my suggestion is that it is an obsene joke, ARMA meaning "armed" in italian, which that graffiti character, in a way, seems to be...hoho.

On an other note, the possibility of you guys already being fully aware of this simple fact (being ARMA members etc etc, ad nauseum) and me missing the irony in your posts is a bit emberassing <img src="/forum/images/icons/smirk.gif" alt="" />
