x-mas swords?

Postby Eddie Smith » Sat Nov 18, 2006 4:42 pm

:D just a fun question, but what kinds of weapons are people getting for the holidays? I myself am getting a longsword, the downside is it is a Windlass, but I did get a chance to handle it before purchase. It is light compaired to many windlasses but also less whippy than some of the ones I have handeled lately. It was a decent price, lower than MRL sold it for when they carried it. It is the sword from that awful movie "a knights tale". But it looks pretty cool, and not so much like it was just for a movie.

I'm hopefully going to be buying an Albion Talhoffer, which will be my first sharp. I'm asking for money for christmas to supplement my savings.

Some plastic wasters, but it was one of those things where I had to justify the purchase to a quite (and wisely so) skeptical spouse about just why I needed to get them.

I'm waiting on the remainder of my new harness to arrive from Mercenary's Tailor. What I have so far looks wonderful.

Well it seems the Lichtenhauer is completed before christmas. So I know a few guys around here that should be getting this for a nice christmas present. Can't say I'm not jealous...

I've got one of the Swordcrafts Lichtenauers, and it feels right and handles well. Only areas I could say it doesn't quite duplicate the feel of real steel blades is that it feels stiffer and if it's hit, it does ring for quite a while, which could distract if you hear it... I do want a second one for a practice partner to use, I think that it'll get its best use if it faces a similarly equipped oponent.

Till I do get another one, though, it does handle quite well for solo drilling.

My cool roommate has very likely gotten me a pair of hard-rubber practice tactical knives to spar with.
I asked my family for a pair of 3-w fencing masks, but we'll see.
"In a fair fight, I would have beaten you!"
"Not much incentive for me to fight 'fair' is it?"

I got two longswords from a Polish smith who I am trying to guide, and soon my entire plate harness (modelled on an English monumental brass of c.1405) will be ready.

I was going to get Albion's Talhoffer, and I still am, but it will not be arriving until March.

On the upside I got copies of the Codex Wallerstein, Ringeck's Knightly Art of the Longsword, and Royal Armourie's Medieval Art of Swordsmanship, a Facsimile and Translation of I.33.

I have got my Albion Liechtenauer blunt in. Came in last week (pre-ordered it almost a year ago to the day). I'm quite pleased with it so far.
