Wow! I got to one before Seth did. Muah ha ha ha ha!
Ahem. Sorry.
Anyway, I work out with the OC group. I'm not sure who you emailed, but I can fill you in.
We meet at Tustin Sports Park every Friday and Saturday at 10:00 am. We have a meetup.com group (search for Orange County ARMA) that has all the details and the rsvps and so forth. Registration is free on meetup, so that's probably the best way to get all the info for a given week.
We mostly practice with longsword right now, but we spar with longsword, sword and buckler, and recently, dagger and knife.
As far as the system goes, it's still a research project in continuous motion. Everyone is working on discovering the meaning behind the historical texts, because there is no solid living tradition (except for a rapier school in Italy, IIRC). So we go to NTP seminars and events, and in between we work on our own on the material we've learned there and on what we find in our own copies of the texts. I haven't personally yet gotten out to an NTP seminar, since I'm fairly new, but I will be at the Gathering, and I'm hoping to catch one of the upcoming 1.0's.
I find the whole process pretty exciting. If you like to have everything in a complete whole, then it might not be the same for you. If you like the idea of working and discovering within a constantly-evolving framework, then it's a great choice. You can read the section on the site about the kind of people ARMA is looking for; that might help give you an idea of the organization's overall culture.
Feel free to come by on Friday or Saturday, of you can. Just let me know if you need any more information. The best way to take a look at the system is to try it out.
