non-British prizing sources

Postby David Kite » Mon Oct 15, 2007 3:03 pm

Okay, so there's plenty of evidence and material out there about prizes and how they were conducted in Britain (particularly from Terry Brown, JD Aylward, and Soane MS 2530). What I'm wondering is whether anyone knows of any similar activities on mainland Europe, either regarding prizes as testing for rank in an assocation or guild (ie Marxbrueder), or as a prize for money or display of skill. I'd be especially interested in late 16th, early 17th century information, but I'll take anything anyone can give me.

thanks
