Might avoid MRL. In order to get these to work (for a fairly short time before breaking) have to resort to such tricks as reinforcing these by canvas wrapping and etc. And even with those revisions the MRL wasters to not hold up well to even moderate pell work. The only real advantage these have is if they're stolen off the porch after delivery nothing much has been lost.
If cost is an issue, make the wasters. That way when they do break you're only out a few dollars, or the time to build from extra lumber.
MRL does make some good things, but their wasters aren't in that catagory.

I've only seen an MRL waster once at an event in Atlanta about 6 years ago. It was brand new and unused, and its first encounter with John Clements was its last. John went to demonstrate a cut against pflug and sent the last foot of the tip flying about 20 feet on the very first strike. Somebody said the waster was made of "butterwood," which in retrospect turned out to be a very accurate description. A $60 waster survived about 0.5 seconds of training.

Yes, the MRL wasters are very, very, breakable. And even with the additions they don't last. And what the wood is I don't know, but its extraordinarly brittle.
The most generous thing which could be said about MRL wasters, is the porch theft advantange. But then again, lumber stores are even cheaper.

I highly recommend making your own wasters if you have the time,tools and talent. That's what I do and each copy runs me about 10 dollars in material and three hours labor.

Purple Heart Armory is not well thought of by ARMA to say the least. ARMA recommends against them.
