For the ARMA Youth

Postby Guest » Sun Apr 06, 2003 6:12 pm

For the ARMA Youth, if they visit the forum, I wanted to start this thread. Let's discuss the Code of Chivalry and how we can apply it to our modern day life in the 21st Century. ARMA Scholars please lend me a hand with comments. At the very bottom is the ARMA Youth Chivalry Code. Lets talk about the first one:

Commitment to develop and train – To seek excellence

How can a person both young and old apply this to thier WMA training, thier school work, after school, family life, and evan thier daily life?

Commitment to develop and train – To seek excellence

Discipline – “Self-restraint” or control of mind, body, and speech.

Nobility in service – to serve others before oneself.

Respect for all worthy people – to appreciate others and see the good in all.

Honor all those above your station – to practice respect for elders and those in authority.

Protect the innocent – stand for the rights and liberties of your fellow.

Courtesy to all ladies and gentlemen – formal politeness.

Celebration of the Arts – arts are the food of the Chivalrous.

"Commitment to develop and train--to seek excellence"

I guess I take this to mean that one should strive to be the best they can be in anything they do. I think of it in terms of a musical performance. Some perform their music just for the money, and are satisfied with that. Others gain their satisfaction in performing from the ego boost of hearing the crowd's applause afterward. But the true musician, at the end of their performance, is satisfied, not because they're going to get paid now, not because the audience is clapping, but because they know they played their absolute best. That is the fullest satisfaction: to know that, whatever thing you happen to be doing, you're doing it the best you can. Money and fame cannot measure up to it. If you are truly committed to your art, nothing can please you more than to simply know you have done well. So it is with swordsmanship, and so it is in all aspects of our lives.

I agree Pat,

It can applied to the ARMA Youth as focusing and striving to further themselves in thier school work. If they acheive high goals, such as good grades, in high school it will help them should they wish to attend collage.
