Anyone seen this clip?

found on you tube, it appears to have been done by the royal armouries, but has that Ian Botenly guy who, the guy talking about swords in the interview, who works for the armouries. However I think he is very bias toward Jap. stuff.

Very biased is a vast understatement...
I think I might have seen this on the French television before. At least I've been annoyed by something very much like it before :)

I seen the french version too Vincent, and they actually and none of the silly east vs. west and insipid Turnbull commentaries (Mr. turnbull is credible when it come to japanese history, but not so much in other areas) and I think they had more scenes with Otake shihan, which was much more interesting.

It's just silly. Whoever is playing dress-up with the arming sword doesn't even know how to cut. He almost fell over the second time. :evil:

Look at him, wobbling and squinting his eyes! Not to mention drawing the blade so far back behind his body and bending his arms too much. Even i can see the flaws in this guy's "technique".

Good grief.

I guess students of the katana are default experts in the longsword, eh? What are we all wasting our time here for....? :)

But seriously. Gotta love how they put these things together without any input from a legitimate organization. You know, when I was a journalism major, they had a little something called "fact checking"....

It was a poor example. But I think the Europien long sword would come out a head since their techniques make the best use of both edges, hilt and point. That sword was the kind most likly used as a back up for someone with a polearm or crossbow, or as a side arm worn day to day.

I... didn't realize there were still people describing the European martial techniques as brute any more. I'm stunned by the ignorance of this video. And they even call it a "broad" sword...

It's a fairly old show, and there seems to be plenty of criticism about the video's bias--even on the youtube link!

The whole brute strength stereotype has been around for a long time, but as ARMA and the other good WMA schools get larger and more recognition it'll be less of a problem.

Besides, for those that just blindly believe anything they see on TV...well, what threat are they to us? :lol:
