Albion Sword Raffle to fund May Conference in Portugal

In order to help fund the ARMA's participation in a symposium in Portugal this year, a member's only raffle will be held for an Albion Baron sword that has just been generously donated by scholar Randall Pleasant of ARMA DFW.

The Baron is a superb Type XIIa great sword and is part of Albion's Next Generation line. The sword being raffled is not brand new and has seen some test cutting, but it is in new condition and has no nicks, bends, rust spots, or other damage, and is still sharp. The sword also comes with a high quality hard plastic case with foam lining and rollers. The original price of this sword is almost a $1000 value.

Photos of the sword been posted on the member Elist.

Tickets for the raffle will be $25 each. This is for ARMA members only. Members may purchase as many tickets as they like.

The actual random drawing for the sword will be held at the upcoming ARMA International Gathering in July, 2009, in Houston. ARMA Deputy Director Aaron Pynenberg will manage the record keeping and conduct the drawing.

Please note that the winner does not have to be in attendance at the International Gathering to collect the sword and any shipping costs will be covered by the generated funds (excepting for those outside the continental USA running in excess of $50, which will then be the responsibility of the winner).

Tickets can only be purchased through Paypal, which will provide record keeping. (Please be aware the surcharge percentage that Paypal places on all transfers). The raffle must generate a reserve of at least $450 dollars by the time of the conference. Should this conditional amount not be met by the raffle then all funds will be returned to ticket holders (minus Paypal's own standard transfer charges). Note: neither the ARMA Director, Deputy Director, the staff of the Gathering, nor the generous scholar who donated the sword are eligible to participate.

A running list of how many total tickets have been sold will be posted weekly on the Elist and the contest will officially end at midnight in on April 30th, 2009. To purchase a ticket use Paypal and this email address. Place the subject, 2009 Sword Raffle Fund, in the payment.

If you have any questions email the ARMA Director.

Good luck!

I wanted to thank Randall for such a selfless act! This is a significant gift and even though I know very well that he didn't want the public acknowledgement and attention, it was well deserving of some mention.

I am sure this will give many Members a chance to own this wonderful sword-(which I already own and it is indeed awesome!)

Even though I will not be able to attend the Portugal Event this generous gift will go a long way in helping us send JC and a designee. This Event is very important for ARMA.

Thanks again Ran!

Everyone and I mean everyone should contribute to this raffle. $25.00 for a chance to win an Albion is an unbelievable opportunity to own a sword that most folks can never afford. At $450 in total contributions, that's a 1 in 18 chance of winning. Those are excellent odds. Even better odds if you buy more than one chance. I'm drooling.

Besides it is very important that this particular syposioum be represented by ARMA. It will add to the prestiege of ARMA and legitimize the symposium itself. So, step up to the plate and thank RP's generosity by entering for a chance to win this bad boy.

Is there a way to do this without Paypal?
