Medieval Lightning Rod

Postby CalebChow » Fri Aug 28, 2009 9:52 pm

Kind of a silly topic, but it seems like a legitimate issue in the old days...

Long, metal pikes. Sharp, shiny steel swords pointed towards the sky. There are plenty of accounts where golfers get struck by lightning when swinging their clubs today.

Wouldn't lightning be an issue every now and then?

"TODAY WE FIGHT FOR KING AND C--" ZZZZZ!!!

"uhh.....commander? You ok?"

Sometimes lightning comes fairly abruptly and people in the old days didn't have the weather forecasting that we have today. Are there any accounts of lightning ever striking down knights or soldiers?

None that I know of, but I think it'd be a pretty big deal and if it happend it'd be reported somewhere (I've not looked, so that explains that).

They'd probably have taken it as a sign from God to not go to battle at that time or some such.

I can't recall the name offhand but I remember a discussion the myarmoury about the same subject and there were a few anecdotes about kings and such who got zapped. I'll see if I can find it

I'd take it as a sign from God even now....
