I'm not sure if these pictures will show up (if not I would appreciate some pointers), but I made a sort of an oak, truncated longsword waster/stand-in for doing drills in my dorm or indoors, as Cincinnati weather is pretty bad this time of year.
All white oak with a 2 part, chiseled mortised pommel and the cross slid over the blade, a rectangular hole in the middle, and fixed with glue and dowels.
3 stacks of steel washers epoxied into the end and then sanded flush give it very close to the right weight and balance (surprisingly), and it feels very similar to a full longsword when doing flourishes or drills... but without the dents in the ceiling...
If anybody is in a similar position, I would highly recommend making one of these.
Cheers
