Looks like a bad study.

Yes, this article has been around a while and I don't know how much the reporter is screwing up the article or the researchers were too ignorant of what they were studying. Armor did not weigh that much and while it could get hot and restricted movement slightly, it wasn't overly so and still a good thing to have.
