Hello again, has anyone handled an "actual" period messer? also is that the correct spelling as I dont have any of the articles in front of me. I have read with much interest the piece on the balance and physics of the sword, and being an amature bladesmith it became readily apparent how much skill goes into constructing a real sword. I got to wondering does the same carefull attention to the "balance" apply to what has been described as " a really big knife " ie: the messer. Does the same relationship exist in other weapons as well such as say a falchion .By relationship I am refering to the uhm.. ( searching for an adequate description here ) " center of pendular momentum?" Like is described in the three part series ( that I can't seem to find now ) And what about pole arms ? has anyone studied the taper and "balance" of the existing period weapons other than the "true" sword ?
Wow its late and I dont think I have asked this question correctly but if anyone understands and can point me towards some research I'd apreciate it.
Thanks
Dan
