The USMA does require boxing for the male cadets.
It is less about learning combative techniques (though they are taught boxing techniqes) and more about learning that you can be beat on and still continue to fight. It is more about developing character and persevearance under duress than about being an effective fighter. It is supposed to help develop aggression, etc....
Female cadets must take self defence.
They offered combative PE classes. This was as of summer of 2001.
Obviously it could have changed but I would think it not too likely. Give it a couple more years then they will change the ACADEMIC curriculum. (the boxing is a PE class)
