Nice video Jeff. Since I'm not familiar with CACC wrestling, I was pleasantly surprised to see it focused on different types of submissions. Is that true of most other wrestling systems as well?

Justin

No most sport ie freestyle, greco roman, wrestling and such are all about pinning the opponent, catch is a somewhat old form it is from the 1800's, I have heard it trace's back to english Lancshire wrestling although i have not seen anything to substantiate this.

Unfortunately it is not that well known.

Jeff

I actually wound up answering my own question shortly after I posted; and I did dig up some information on catch wrestling. From what I picked up, it seems that its origins (the American style) lie in forms of wrestling brought over from Britain (like you said) and Ireland with the colonists. It later eveloved as it assimilated more techniques from other cultures as people emigrated to America. Of course, through trial in combat and competition, combined with time and new additions, the art became what it is today. I found an article that basically expands on what I just wrote, and provides information about some of the more prominent catch wrestlers.

Also, there is a google video featuring the same catch wrestling school you provided in your link

I'd like to know what you think of that video

Hey Justin

That article look's like it was written either by Matt Fury or an interview with him, Matt has alot of good stuff, there is some sort of rivalry, dispute, some sort of crap between him and Tony Cecchine, they both have some good stuff though.

The collar and elbow wrestling take's form now day's as the tie up seen in most free style wrestling when they grip the back of the neck with one hand and the opposite arm with there other so we do see some remnant's of the very old wrestling a good majority of the realy sweet hold's are not used though.

I'll get back to you after i watch the video I'm on dial up so it is slow to load.
