Recommendations for Fencing Masks and gorgets?

Postby leam hall » Mon Jun 21, 2004 4:01 am

I hoping to get beat up with a rapier later this summer, I need a fencing mask and gorget. Having no knowledge of the differences or where best to get them, and suggestions and tips?

I'd like to get one good one that'll take care of me for a while.
ciao!

Hi Leam,

I think you may have seen mine when you were here. The supplier is Triplette Competition Arms. I opted for the mid range 3 weapons mask which is certainly good for Rapier, plus you can also use it for sparring, provided you don't get hit in the back of the head. Mike Eging and I have actually been wearing them for light blunt steel drills. Also, ask about color because I actually had a choice of white, black or red <img src="/forum/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

Here's the site:

Hi Leam,

where are you learning to fence at? The 3 weapons mask that Gary pointed you too is a good mask, but if you need a seperate gorget you are going to have to make or purchase one. Tripplette doesn't make gorgets, but if you look for people selling armour, you can find one there. Since I make my own armour, I have no good references for you on where to purchase a decent gorget.

hope this helps.

We have one of the member's sons passing through this fall and he's interested in rapier. A couple of us were thinking about it for the colder season on the theory that the gambeson might not be so bad.

What makes this whole "Triplette" thing so funny is that I'm currently in Joisey, and they're, literally, "just over the hill" from where my family is from...
ciao!
