If you haven't got a waster, you'll want one of those first, before you even think about buying a steel.

A wooden waster is a wooden training sword. In ARMA we use 4 training tools to learn swordsmanship. Padded sparring weapons, wooden wasters, steel blunts, and steel sharps for test cutting. The 1st tool that every new student should acquire is a wooden waster. You will do most of your initial learning with a waster. For reccomended places to purchase one, please look under waster manufacturers at this link http://www.thearma.org/links.htm Also, there are some of, like myself, who make their own wasters, and will make a few for others at a reasonable price.

good luck in your training
