WMA in Czech Republic

Postby JeanryChandler » Tue Jan 11, 2005 4:44 pm

Hi,

I recently had a visit here in New Orleans from a friend Pedro who lives out in the Czech republic. Pedro spent a day training and sparring with our informal fencing practice group and showed a great deal of aptitude for historical fencing. He sparred well and instantly learned all the basic guards from Ringeck, and performed the eight cuts almost perfectly after one day. He has been training as a boxer for some time and is interested in pursuing WMA now that he has been exposed to it.

I'm trying to find an active Western Martial Arts or Historical Martial Arts group that he could participate in, in the Czech republic or somewhere near. Czech, near Prague or in Bohemia would be ideal though. He does also speak fluent Czech so that would not be a problem.

By WMA / HEMA I mean only groups which do real training based on the Fechtbuchs, and include full-contact sparring. I'm not looking so much for re-enactment, SCA, stick fighting, or classroom only schools, or "kata" only schools which do not put their training to the test by sparring.

If anyone could provide me with any information it would be appreciated. Please post here or PM me.

All I can say is, we are at the top border of Hungary in a town called Györ. I guess we are too far away for regular training, but would welcome him on any occassion he would like to come. We are doing seminars and camps, and all that kind of stuff. We even would travel there if he would start a new group. If he would come once in two months and we would be going once in two months and if we could meat on ocassions, we could do some knowledge exchange and could help each other.

Mr Waldmann,

Thank you for replying, I will pass the information on to Pedro. Of course you understand, he is a beginner, he has only had one day of training. I'm not sure if he is ready to found his own group or not. I'm not really certain either how far of a trip it is to Hungary from Prague, (I've never been there myself!) but I'll be glad to forward your contact information to him if you want to send me a Private Message with your email or phone number.

Okay, my phone number is ++36 96 667 33 10. I speak english and german (and hungarian ) He can write me a mail to szabolcs.waldmann@audi.hu">szabolcs.waldmann@audi.hu or <a href="mailto:cross.hueller@freemail.hu. He may as well wisit our site http://www.sword.sg18.net/ , there is a forum and contact info as well.

I understand he is a beginner, yet that is not something that should bother him. If he finds somebody he can talk to and visit once in a while (and get this somebody to travel to his training sometimes), he can start with his friends (about 4- people). They can train what they learn in the meetings with that other member.
It worked already with two other groups.
