Ahem....just wanted to add that the event is also sponsored by the ARMA Southside Houston study group as well. Granted, the group is small. Actually, classes don't even start until the end of April.

But still....

UPDATE:
I forgot to include in the original post that rather than an open Seminar, this event will be ARMA members only and will be considered a Members Workshop (rather than an NTP event). Also be advised that the ARMA uniform will be required in order to participate. The ARMA uniform consists of a plain white T-shirt for non and new members, red T-shirt for General Free Scholars and Senior Free Scholars, and plain black sweat pants for all of the above.

I apologize for the miscommunication and any inconvenience that it may have caused.

I also apologize for the oversight of Gene's groups participation in this event. Sorry Gene. I'm used to you being part of our study group. I must learn to let go (o:

The event website contains the schedule of classes and other info. Please visit http://www.truvey.com/arma/ for all of the details.

The ARMA Houston North Siders Study Group will be hosting a Regional ARMA Event on August 27 and 28 of 2005.

The event will be held at the Humble Civic Center, Humble, Texas in a 3000 square foot air conditioned room. Humble, Texas is located 20 minutes north of downtown Houston. The civic center is located approximately 5 minutes from Houston's Bush Intercontinetal Airport.

Three meals on Saturday, and two on Sunday will be provided to attendees and is covered in the cost of the event.

There will be three classes and one lecture on Saturday and two classes and one lecture on Sunday. There will also be time at the end of each day for sparring and material review with instructors.

The cost is $100 and due to the size of the facility will be limited to the first 50 ARMA members to register.

Please visit the events website (http://www.truvey.com/arma/event.htm) for more information. To register send an email to lonestar@thearma.org

This event can also be found listed under Upcoming ARMA Events on the main ARMA site (www.theARMA.org)

Michael,

When will you post details about what will be covered in each workshop and how long the workshops will last? I'm specifically interested in the dagger, unarmed, and staff. What sources will be covered in the dagger and unarmed fighting workshop by Harris, the grappling by Tausk and Wagner, and the staff by Clifford? I need details so I can decide if I want to come.

Also, will handouts be available for each workshop? I think handouts need to be required from each presenter. I can already hear the groans about that requirement, but please note that handouts help the presenter better organize and communicate his material and they provide the workshop attendees a record of material covered so that later they can practice accurately when they return home and so can research and field-test the material taught and perhaps even give feedback to the presenters at a later date. Otherwise, the human memory being what it is, the workshop material is too easily forgotten or worse, misrembered, and thus misrepresented to others.

Certainly handouts will be given out for the grappling classes. I should know because they are already ready. As for class descriptions, they will be posted on the website next week.

Hope this answers your question and looking forward to seeing you there.

Gene and company,

What sort of knife fighting will Harris teach in his seminar? The title of his seminar is generic. His webpage suggests he is an escrima man mainly, and I see no evidence of knowledge of Renaissance -era knife fighting there. Has he been reseaching Western material based on his extensive Asian knife fighting knowledge since he posted the webpage and will he be presenting his insights at the Schwertlager?

Ron Harris taught a very effective class using rondel daggers last year at Southern Knights in New Orleans. I can't remember which manual he was using. Might've been either Fiore or Codex Wallerstein.

It was from CW, technically, but really it was a few moves from CW after an hour of escrima. Not that that's a bad thing, it just is what it is. I enjoyed the class, and if nothing else, it showed me what I might expect from an opponent.

I am pleased to announce that the interest in ARMA Houston's Schwerlager event it strong and ticket sales are going faster than expected. As of this writing, we have only 20 open spots. Therefore, if anyone is interested, i would advise signing up now rather than latter as more than half the spots have already been taken and we are still two months away from the event. Registration details can be found at http://www.truvey.com/arma/event.htm. See Ya'll in August.
