Slick! Much more like many of the other forums that have contributed to my addiction.

There is still a lot of work to do here to get this where we want it. More changes are on the way.

Well, I'm a semi-newbie, but I had seen them before, and I must say, they look quite nice. :)

Thanks guys, I know how much this site means to everybody and I'm glad I can help. We're having a little bit of a debate here, what do you guys think of the new button font? Too fancy and hard to read? It's based on Renaissance Italian script, so I thought it might be appropriate. Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Stacy

I like the font for the button's, It add's a certain feel that is less generic than most other forum's.

I like the font itself, but it clashes slightly with the "standard" font used in the posts, and it often looks a little bit squashed.

It took a little getting used at first, but I really like the new look now as well. Ditto on the new font.

My only question, because I can be a real dummy sometimes, is how to read the ARMA emblems in front of each thread. I assume red means a new reply and black means no new reply, but why are sometimes only the sword and sometimes only the shield red? Does that mean something else or is there still a few bugs to tweak out?

Also, why is the Virtual Classroom locked and archived?

otherwise, great job

Good question, for like two years now we've been meaning to consolidate the Open Research one with the Virt Class one, because we never really utilized the second one for what we envisioned it to be at the time we set it up in 2002. There was very little difference between the two, so now we comsolidated them.

If you go down to the bottom of the post listings there is a key to the symbols, but basically a red shield means there are new posts and a red sword means it's a popular topic. I'm trying to come up with good alternatives to the standard phpBB symbols, and that seemed to work in theory, but when it's that tiny I guess it loses something. May have to work on those some more to make it more clear. Suggestions are welcome.

On the font looking a little squashed, all I can say is that's not a bug, that's a feature. If prevailing opinion deems it to be a problem then we'll change it to something a little more readable. I just want to make sure it's not making things difficult for anybody. If it stays then I'll see about sprucing up some of the more boring text fonts on here to make it look nicer.

As for the virtual classroom, a lot of classroom-type discussion was already going on in the main research forum and it was John's discretion to go ahead and merge the two.

Keep the feedback coming guys, this is your forum and we want to make it one you can be proud of.
