Absolute Fencing 3-W with removable liner

Postby Kevin Hemmingsen » Mon Oct 26, 2009 12:44 pm

Has anyone used this mask with the removable material (for washing)? I was looking to buy a new mask and was thinking about getting this one but I was worried that the material would not fit as tightly as a mask that is not removable. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Cheers,

I've been using mine for a couple months now, no problems with it. Aside from the fact that it's not a coveted BH helm...

The removable lining doesn't affect the fit on my mask any. The only annoying thing about it is when it bunches up under my chin where there's not enough velcro to attach it properly.

We've been using these here in Austin for several years. It's nice to be able to take out the liner and wash it. Just be careful when you pull the liner out for washing that you don't tear the foam - it's a bit fragile. Just be sure to grab on to the velcro itself and not pull on the foam.

Also I recommend ordering a spare liner when you order the mask. Spare liners are cheap. If you order it at the same time as the mask, you won't have to pay extra shipping when it comes time to replace the liner. The liners last about a year, depending on how often you wash them and how careful you are with the foam.

I'm hoping to pick this mask up in a couple of weeks (ok, I'm hoping Santa does). I know nothing about fencing masks, being a novice. Does the mask offer any protection to the top of the head? If not, do you insert some kind of padding to prevent a cracked skull from an errant waster?

The top of the head is good, it's the back of the head that'll get ya'

The top of the head is ok, it's the back and sides that could use a bit more padding in 3W fencing masks.

I know because I got krumped in the back of my head once, not a pleasant experience (do not lunge that low, keep upright!)

Just bought it for xmas. I'll post a review once I free-play with it a few times.
