No argument at all on that point. I agree that ultimately you want a better training tool. I'm saving up for an Ensifer, or possibly a Fechterspiel for example. But for now, my Tinker does what I need it to do, and my waster works against my pell.

I definitely understand the argument for quality, but as something of an advocate for beginners and their place in the art, I try to point out alternatives where "good"w ill do.

Similar to your analogies, you don't hand a formula 1 race car to a beginning driver. They can't use it properly, and they don't need it to learn.

I currently use a Moc Violet longsword. It's seen one or two training sessions per week since 2003 and is holding up just fine. So quality-wise, Moc is good, if you ask me. Back then, Albion wasn't available to us.

The Violet (at least the "edition" I have) is quite well balanced. These days, I would choose an Albion Liechtenauer. I say this knowing that I would have to save up for months.

The bottom line is: From computer equipment to other hobby stuff, I used to buy cheap to "see if it was something I enjoy". I have, time and again, ended up throwing the cheap stuff away and invariably shell out more cash for the real thing. I have grown out of that.

I'm simply too poor to buy cheap. Beacuse if you buy cheap, you buy twice.
