Used Sword for sale, anyone?

Postby JeffreyHendricks » Thu Apr 27, 2006 8:20 pm

I was wondering if anyone had an Albion quality ( meaning accurate, brand does not matter) sword for sale at a decent price(a good deal lower than new price), I would like to know.

I'm looking for a blunt rapier or cut and thrust sword.
Jest cant afford and am not willing to pay $500+ for a sword right now.
Oh, and I would not be able to buy one immediatley, and maybe if you know of a well priced beginner level sword to start with that's new, I'd be much obliged

Thanks
Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey,

are you looking for a rapier that you can do drills with and spar with? If so, where you are on a budget, you might want to look at making a fiberglass rapier to get started with. I have a how to article for making them here on ARMA's site. http://www.thearma.org/Practice/fiberglass-rapier-simulator.html That would give you a good start for rapier on a budget. As for cut and thrust, you might want to look at something like the MRL French cut and thrust sword http://www.museumreplicas.com/webstore/eCat/Swords%20and%20Knives/French%20Cut%20%20%20Thrust%20Sword.aspx and finish blunting it, or the Italian cut and thrust. http://www.museumreplicas.com/webstore/eCat/Swords%20and%20Knives/Italian%20Cut%20%20%20Thrust.aspx I am interested in the Paul Chen Side Sword to make into a blunt. http://www.casiberia.com/cas/product_details.asp?id=SH2203

The nice thing about taking a sharp and blunting it is that you can also buy a 2nd one to keep as a sharp for cutting practice.

Hope this helps.

Brian Hunt.

Jeffrey,

If you're looking for a used weapon specifically around Albion's quality range, consider looking in the MyArmoury Marketplace forum. Be warned though- you may be hard pressed to find an Albion sword in the range you're looking for.

Brian,
Yes for sparring, to me....I dont know what Id do with a sharp sword...Hang it on the wall?
I'll try those links you posted......I've made your fiberglass one already ,and I really like it, but I'd like a steel one too.

thanks
Jeffrey

If you are looking for a steel blunt rapier, then you may want to check out Darkwood Armoury. I would look into their practical rapiers. http://www.darkwoodarmory.com/ Or you might want to check out A & A's rapier line, you can get most of their hilts with one of the "nail" rapier blunts. http://www.armor.com/ I am not a fan of the flexi-rapier blades that are on the market. I find that they are too flexible because they are being built to meet the safty standards of groups like the SCA and therefore are way to flexible. It is a bit like fencing with a steel noodle. I prefer something that is at least as stiff as the fiberglass rapier blades. You might be better off buying a decent rapier and blunting it, or saving your money and waiting for the Capo Ferro from Albion.

just a couple of more thoughts.

A rapier should definitely be a needle, not a noodle.
