sabre waster

Hello, any gentleman who studies 700' fencing should practice with sabers, he will so be in need of a sabre waster.
If he wants to make his own, there is the way to do it:
buy a bokken, not of the heaviest kind, cut away some centimeters from the side of the tip.
Now, with a rasping file remove something from the back of the grip in corrispondence to the upper part of your hand, take away something from the from part of the grip in corrispondence to the lower part of your hand, you will so get the lovely pistol grip of the sabre.
Take some glass paper and round and "clean" the grip so as it feels good to you, and round and "clean" the tip because, if you leave it like it is after you shortened it, it'll cut like hell.
Now, if you feel you can't do without a hilt, take some syntetic leather and a pair of really strong scissors, cut the hilt of the shape you wish, make a (large enough) hole in corrispondence with the blade. Put a string of cord on the upper part of the grip, then put the hilt on the piece, put a tightly taped string of cord above the upper part of the hilt , nail the bottom below the pommel.
That's all folks

Hey, thanks for the idea! I'd never thought about converting boken to wasters. I've got an old pair I think I'll go to work on

Hi,

I am thinking that that'll be too light for a saber... unless you are training for dueling sabers that were not suitable any thing other than not killing your opponent. It is better than a sport saber, as that one will flex beyond all practical use.

Better off probably getting a light bokken with a curve in it and padding so it is closer to a real saber's weight.

Just my 2 cents. :-)

You're right, it's light, but it will have a more forward balance, so it compensates to it's lightness somewhat. Anyway, if you want it heavier, you can roll a bit of lead leaf on the forte, remember to tape it tightly.
