Scrimia warm-up

Postby Torvosguardo » Thu Jun 07, 2007 9:27 am

Hi all, i'm a new member! :D

I'm from italy, i'm a student and my favorite interest are scrimia as martial art, storical events and notions about the period from 13th to 17th century. (sorry for my bad english )

cause i'm also an istructor in a scrimia "company", i want to begin my presence in this beautiful forum (i choose this one because it look like the most serious) asking something to someone with much experience than me.
My question concerns the warm-up before a scrimia lesson; till now i suggested as warm-up a game like dodgeball, because it could be useful to increase agility and accuracy...

did someone try anything else?

thx for suggestions! :D

Hi Torvos (I assume that is your real name?)

I like to warm up with medicine ball exercises/games, some full-body calisthenics, and foot work drills.

Dodgeball could work, but it would probably be more time than the benefit you'd get from it.

Hi Jake, now this is my real name! (Sorry but that rule passed me up!)

Medicine ball exercises are great ( i didn't consider it! thanks) but my real problem is to involve all the "students" in one collective game/exercise.

In fact normally in our courses dosen't exist a real warm-up, but the participants are free to does what they want before the lessons or the fightings... but at the end not all does exercises, maybe could be a discipline problem...

Hey Torvos

In our group we usualy get in a circle and throw a medicine ball around the circle for 10-15 minute's, sometime's we will use a "game" from Fabian Von Auerswald called wrestling in the whole were one guy stand's with one foot in a circle and there other hop's on one leg, the object is the guy in the whole try's to force the guy on one leg to put his foot down and the guy on one leg try's to make the other guy step out of the whole.

For some reason the words "monkey" and "football" come to mind. Insert you own verb.
"Do you know how to use that thing?"
"Yes, pointy end goes in the man."
Diego de la Vega and Alejandro Murrieta from The Mask of Zorro.

Actualy Von Auerswald say's something to the effect that it is funny to watch, which it is.

It is actualy very educational the guy in the whole is easy to knock over if his stance's is not balanced(Der Wage) and the guy on one leg can use the one he is holdng up to hook his opponent's leg's and such to keep his balance, think tripod, Once you do it a few time's it get's to be very interesting because of what you learn about balance and pressure, think press drill with your body.

Great ideas!

Another exercice could be what we called "catch the tail" (is a transaltion from italian, don't know if it's correct) .
One try to catch an handkerchief attached on the opponent's back.

thanks for advices

Kevin
