Hans Heim TV interview

Postby Jay Vail » Sat Jun 09, 2007 5:51 am

Someone has posted on Youtube a German TV news feature on Hans Heim and his group in Germany. Although in German, it's an interesting story. You get to see Hans' group practicing -- and color pictures of the original Paulus Kal manuscript. Have a look!

That's awesome, now if only I could speak German...

By the way, how much news coverage do WMA groups in North America get? I remember seeing something on Discovery about WMA, but it was only a minute long piece of Daily Planet.

The most I've seen in the States was reasonably sized segment in an episode of the History Channel's "Modern Marvels: Swords, Axes, and Knives" but, that's pretty much it as far as I know. I can only dream of a study group as large as the one in the video, there's like twenty plus people in that training area at one time! Thanks for posting it, I just have to wait about a year now until I can basically understand whats being said, after I get a year of college German under my belt.

I agree Sam, I really wish I spoke German. Although some of the words were familiar from the fechtbuchs, it was nowhere nearly enough to really get what they were saying. Dang it, why cant those Germans just speak English like us Americans??? *sigh*

I have never seen anything in the states on WMA before aside from the History Channel show mentioned. I think we are getting the short end of the spear here, but I would imagine that being Germans they have a connection to the German school of fencing that is a little closer to home than ours.

I would have liked to see more of his class practicing, the footwork and some of the guards used seemed different from the way I have learned to fence. Anyone else notice anything like that?
