New book?

Postby Stephen Zeringue » Sat Nov 08, 2008 5:47 pm

Has anyone heard of a translation of Paulus Hector Mair by Jeffery L. Forgeng? If anybody knows something about it or other similar titles please post.

I don't know of any published books on Paulus Hector Mair besides the Polearms book, and that's certainly not by Forgeng!
I googled Paulus Hector Mair, and found that the Higgins Armory does have a pdf out there on some longsword material from Mair, but that's about all I could find. And the pdf is by a Lawrence Delaney, whoever that is, so still no Forgeng.

Looks like it was to be published by ChivalryBookshelf back in 2006. Likewise a book by Forgeng on the messer work of Hans Leckuüchner's Messerfechten. But I have heard nothing about these books lately.

Coincidentally, the first set of longsword plates from Mair's Vienna MS that Higgins has online are the exact same ones that I sent to Chivalry Bookshelf as samples when I was shopping a Mair book around (I was originally going to do a longsword book). Greg Mele forwarded those samples to Forgeng and wanted me to work with Forgeng, but more as one of his many assistants than as a coauthor. And the "translators" made the exact same translating errors that I did in those samples. Purely coincidence, I'm sure.

Yeah, I've been waiting on the Leckuchner book from Forgeng for a long time now. I've asked Chivalry Bookshelf about it, and they never did respond. I hope the project didn't get scrapped. I didn't realize that a Mair book was on the same status.

I ran across the following thread on the Schola Gladiatoria forum:

Publication of Paulus Hector Mair / Jeffrey Forgeng

It seems that Forgeng is looking for a publisher other than Chivalry Bookshelf and Paladin.

Yes. Note the bit in the thread about how unresponsive Chivary is to authors. Hmmm.
